What type of information is the Volvo Adventure site collecting about children?
Volvo believes it is good policy not to collect more personally identifiable information from children than is necessary for them to participate in our on-line activities. Children can enter our site and view content without any personally identifiable information being collected. However for children to interact with the site and actively participate in some areas of it, collection of some personal information is necessary. In the following zones children can submit information to the site:
  • To submit a competition entry the following information needs to be collected to enable administration of the judging process and prize giving: Adult teacher/youth group leader's name, school/youth group organisation name, address, country, telephone and fax number, contact email address, names and ages of children in group.
  • In the Gallery area of the site, school and group presentations are displayed. Teachers and other adult group leaders are asked to ensure that their presentations do not include children's names and personal details, such as email addresses, particularly where photographs are being used as part of the presentation. They are also encouraged to seek parental permission to submit images of young people. Groups are encouraged to use photographs of items designed and made in lessons, excerpts from written work and scanned images of artwork, allowing young people to exhibit their work to a wider audience, without risk of inappropriate use of photos of pupils. Lastly they are advised that only images of young people in appropriate dress should be used and close-up pictures of individual children avoided.
  • Users can request at any time that any information belonging to them be removed from, or be updated on our database via the webteam: webteam@volvoadventure.org. Similarly, presentations entered into the competition, that are displayed on the site can be withdrawn from the competition and the Project Gallery at any time. However it will not be possible to make editorial changes to competition submissions beyond the submission deadline.
How can parents find out what information has been collected?
Parents can contact the webteam: webteam@volvoadventure.org at any time for details of information that has been collected about their child. The importance of security for all personally identifiable information associated with our site visitors is of utmost concern to us. Volvo takes technical, contractual, administrative and physical security steps to protect all visitors information. We also remind site users of simple steps they can take to protect themselves.
